Concept B-Class Electric Drive
The Mercedes-Benz Concept B-Class Electric Drive was unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The concept had an electric motor rated 136 PS (100 kW; 134 hp) and 310 N·m (229 lb·ft), 36 kWh lithium-ion battery from Tesla Motors. The vehicle has a driving range of 200 km (124 mi) with a top speed of 150 km/h (93 mph). The battery can be charged at any standard domestic 230 V power outlet or 400 V rapid charging terminal. |
Production Model
The vehicle was unveiled at the 2013 New York International Auto Show, followed by IAA International Motor Show 2013. The production version has an estimated all-electric range of 85 mi (137 km) on the EPA cycle. The production model was originally scheduled to go on sale in the U.S. at the beginning of 2014 as a 2014 model year vehicle, and subsequently in European markets. However, sales are delayed to second quarter of 2014 in the U.S. and end of 2014 in Europe. Production for retail customers began in April 2014 at Mercedes-Benz Rastatt factory.

The Mercedes-Benz, B-Class, F-CELL is a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle developed by Daimler AG. This is the second version - the previous version was based on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, and the new model is based on the Mercedes-Benz B-Class.
The first generation F-Cell was introduced in 2002, and had a range of 100 miles (160 km), with a top speed of 82 mph (132 km/h). The current B-Class F-CELL has a more powerful electric engine rated at 100 kW (134 horsepower), and a range of about 250 miles (402 km). This improvement in range is due in part to the B-Class's greater space for holding tanks of compressed hydrogen, higher storage pressure, as well as fuel cell technology advances. |
Both cars have made use of a "sandwich" design concept, aimed at maximizing room for both passengers and the propulsion components. The fuel cell is a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), designed by the Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation (AFCC) Corporation.

YouTube’s DRIVE channel test specialist Chris Harris took the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive for a quiet spin around the track.
He had the pleasure of testing Mercedes-Benz’s most expensive model on sale today which carries an electrifying price tag in Germany of 416,500 EUR (including VAT). Although it looks just about the same as the regular version, underneath the shiny metal it has four synchronous electric motors rather than a conventional gasoline engine. These motors have a combined output of 740 bhp (551 kW) and 999 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque, making the Electric Drive 177 bhp (132 kW) and 351 Nm (259 lb-ft) more powerful than the 6.2-liter V8 inside the "regular" SLS AMG. It can run the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 3.9 seconds and reach an electronically-capped top speed of 155 mph (249 km/h). |
