A look back to pre-electric days
Ever since our ancestors swung down from the trees mankind has sought easier methods of locomotion than two feet. Horses, chariots, carts and carriages have all played their part over the millennia. Eventually there came the electric motor and suddenly travel started to get easier.
Then came the internal combustion engine, the electric motor at first held its own but was finally relegated to ‘an idea that didn't quite make it;’ ironically due in no small part to advances in electrical technology and engineering. The internal combustion engine continued on its way; at first noisy, dirty and inefficient then finally just noisy and dirty and to accompany it a new creature evolved, the ‘greater anencephalic petrol-head,’ an example of which can be found occasionally on a television set near you. Now that electric bikes are becoming more widespread they have been subjected to the attention of, and ignorant, ill informed comment from the ‘lesser bone-headed mamil,’ that more pernicious sub-species of the ‘greater anencephalic petrol-head,’ |
